The event showcased local talent and raised funds for scholarships that those with an af- finity for the arts can apply for. This year 's show had 16 separate per- formances and was h e a d l i n e d b y We s Mason. Mason, who lives just outside of Ac- ton and attended Acton District High School, was "Best Young Song- writer" at the 2016 Toronto Independent Music Awards and was named one of the "Top 20 Artists Under 20" in CBC's 2016 Search- light Competition. "I mean, it's huge. The whole commun- ity's here. I know so many peop le , I 've seen so many famil- iar faces", said Mason, who announced that he was flying to California for a two week record- ing session the next day. Mason's family was also in attendance. The show's MC was Pat Kentner, and acts included: the Robert Little Glow Choir, the Acton District High School Jazz Band, the Acton Town Hall Play- ers, Leanne Monaghan, Natalie Longpre, Hea- ther Mascarin and The Hazzards. Local artists also displayed their work, including Cora Ba i l ey, Jane t Wi l - son, Laura Taylor, and Trudy Priede. Marjorie Britton, who organized the show with a committee of volunteers, said, "It's not only helping the arts community, but I'm really thankful for the community in our church that makes this happen because there's a lot of people who put time into getting this ready." The show raises ap- proximately $1,000 every year for local art- ists. The money can go towards equipment, les- sons and school costs. Many years, money is left over because people don't apply for what is available. Lo- cal Artists interested in writing an applica- tion for a scholarship can call Knox Church in Acton at (519) 853- 2360, or visit their website for the appli- cation form.
