An additional 366 drivers were issued "warn range suspensions" and had their licences tempor- arily suspended for having blood/alcohol levels be- tween 0.05 and 0.08. These numbers are slight- ly down from the 2016-17 RIDE campaign last year. During that time, 623 im- paired drivers were charged and 366 drivers had their li- cences suspended. The OPP stepped up their RIDE enforcement efforts by conducting 9,830 RIDE events, compared to 7,343 events the previous year. During 2017, 44 lives were lost in alcohol/drug-related collisions on OPP patrolled roads. Of the 587 drivers charged with impairment this year during the RIDE campaign, 29 of them were charged with drug-impair- ment. The OPP maintains a heightened awareness of impaired driving laws around the clock. In 2017, officers charged 4,915 drivers with alcohol-im- pairment and 238 with drug-impairment charges.
