Congratulations, you guys! Keith tells me that there are only a couple of spots left open to sign up for the Winter Horseshoe Tourna- ment, which this year will be held on Sunday, Febru- ary 4. There will also be a Foodbank Drive, and the horseshoe group is hoping to exceed last year's total of 78 lbs of foodstuff plus $55 in cash. So, hurry in and get your name on the signup sheet. On Saturday, February 10 the Legion will be host- ing the Ladies Appreciation Dinner and Dance in the Main Hall. Following the presentations at approxi- mately 9 p.m., the dance will be open to all members and their spouses. Cathy wants to remind everybody that this year's Family Fun Winter Carni- val will be held on Sunday, February 18. We are switch- ing back to Sunday so as not to clash with Town events being held on the Monday. Make a note of that date. More details to follow. The following Sunday, February 25 there will be a bus trip to Sunnybrook. De- tails to follow. Check the notices behind the bar for upcoming events. Ladies Auxiliary: LA Notes A reminder that our appre- ciation dinner is on February 10. The Branch spoils us with a great dinner and en- tertainment. Please contact Susan Poulsen or Celine Clarke by the end of January if you plan on attending so we can provide the Branch with our numbers. We also hold our honours and awards for years of ser- vice and volunteer hours throughout the year. Cocktails are ay 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. sharp. Entertainment and dancing is open to anyone who would like to join us at 9 p.m. Celine Clarke President, LA BR 197 The latest copy of our newsletter, Hillsview, will be out shortly. It will cover February and March. Hills- view will be published every two months in future except for the three quieter summer months when it will cover June, July and August. This way we can cover events that might be planned at short notice. Are you a Facebook user? We now have our own members group. So, send a request to join us at "Hillsview Active Living Centre - Acton". The next Lunch and Learn is on February 6. Lunch that day will be wraps, soup and dessert, and the speaker will be Dennis Dimitroff. Dennis is the Community Mobil- ization Officer with the Halton Police. He will be talking about the many concerns that seniors have and policing in Acton. He will also talk about home security, safety and frauds. He will be happy to answer any questions you might have. The Men's Breakfast is on Tuesday, January 30. The guest speaker is a rep- resentative from Dufferin Quarries. This week is your last opportunity to purchase a ticket to win the hockey sweater. It will be drawn at the end of the month. The next social din- ner will be on Monday, February 12. Tickets are available at the reception desk. The cut-off date is Thursday, February 8 at 3:45 p.m. We will be cele- brating Valentine's Day a couple of days early. The dinner this month will be ham and scalloped po- tatoes, vegetables with a surprise dessert. Ronnie Russell will be entertain- ing us. Euchre players are in- vited to enjoy an evening of playing Euchre on Wed- nesday, February 7. Drop in and join them. Come and cheer on Team Canada during the 2018 Winter Olympics while watching the games on TV at the Center. From February 1 to the 9 give a member of staff your name and phone number and the amount of gold medals you think Canada might win. The person who guesses the closest will win some great Olympic wear from Hudson's Bay. Roberta Thompson tells me that Robert Thom is a quick learner. He had the only mooner while playing Bid Euchre last Thursday afternoon. The Funding Committee has received a donation of jewellery just in time for Valentine's Day. It will be on sale on Friday, January 26, February 2 and Febru- ary 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday lunch on Febru- ary 2 will be quiche and salad plus dessert, tea and coffee followed by Bingo at 1:15 p.m. The weekly 50/50 has finally been won.
