The grant was used to complete ex- terior renovations to the 1800s Gothic Revival style home, now a com- mercial building. The CIP is a "tool box" of programs that encour- ages local businesses to make investments in their properties. For the Acton Downtown sub-area, the Façade Improvement Grant pro- vides a 70 per cent grant for eligible work to a maximum of $12,500. The renovations at A Touch of Class included concrete slab and curbs, new eavestroughs and fa- scia, painting and pilaster and molding around the front door and windows. The renovations honour the history and design of the building, while also making it fresh and up- to-date. "I am very pleased to see Acton businesses continue to invest in their future. The enhanced fa- çade of A Touch of Class, positioned in a prom- inent location in the community, provides an eye-catching, energized look to the streetscape," said Mayor Rick Bon- nette. "This is just one part of the value of the CIP program to our community, and I invite other business owners to cons ider making improvements to their properties." "We wanted our ex- terior renovations to demonstrate our design talent and the quality of the work we do, since those elements are key parts of the service we provide to our clients. We are pleased to see the effort and invest- ment that the Town is putting into downtown Acton and are happy to do our part by investing in our own business," stated Eric Bronsveld, owner of A Touch of Class. "The CIP grant gave us the opportunity to do even more exterior improvements than we had originally planned. We hope that our new look will inspire Acton residents to 'shop lo- cal' when planning their kitchen and bathroom re- modelling." The CIP program, in place since 2014, has been very popular and 2018 funding is already in high demand. For more information about the CIP contact the Eco- nomic Development Office at 905-873-2601 ext. 2353 or edo@hal- tonhills.ca At the Regular Board Meeting held on Tuesday, January 16 the Hal- ton Catholic District School Board accepted, with regret, the notice of retirement of Paula Dawson, Director of Education, effect- ive August 31. "This district has always held a spe- c i a l p l a c e i n m y heart," said Dawson. "Being appointed to the role of Director of Education for this Board in 2013 was a tremendous honour; an honour made even more special because I was coming back home." Dawson began her career in education in 1987, and has served in a multitude of roles at four Catholic school boards across Ontario: Cath- olic District School Board of Eastern Ontario, the London District Catholic School Board, Wellington Catholic District School Board, and Halton Catholic District School Board. In 2013 Paula Dawson became the sixth Director of Education, and the first female Director for the Halton Catholic District School Board. "I have enjoyed a wonderful career as a Catholic teacher and leader, but it is time for me to pass the torch," said Dawson. "I will be forever grateful for my association with this school board, and I wish all students, parents and staff continued success in the years ahead." " M s . D a w s o n is a very ta lented and knowledgeable Catholic educator," says Diane Rabenda, Chair of the Board. "For the past f ive years the students and staff in the Hal- ton Catholic District School Board have been blessed with Director Dawson's leadership, and we are grateful for her dedication to our Board, and her many contributions to Catholic educa- tion in Ontario. We wish her continued success and much happiness as she embarks upon the next chapter of her life's journey." At the meeting on January 16, the Board of Trustees voted to commence plans for the selection process of a new Director of Education.
