To all the Acton fire department crew, Halton Police, Port Credit OPP, EMS, nurses and doctors at Georgetown hospital thank you! To my mom that received the emergency call and came to get me. Please apply by email to rmarsh@bellnet.ca (06) 379 Queen St. East Please Remember To By: Harry Rudolfs The Adult Learning Cen- tre is looking for students for an upcoming computer basics course to be held at the Acton Public Library. This is a six-week course that will run on Wednesday evenings and will provide participants with the skills required to use a computer or laptop. The classes are small-- up to six students--and the program is geared towards individuals who have little or no computer skills. Stu- dents will be shown how to operate Windows, Microsoft Word, how to save files, send and receive emails, and how to use the Internet as a research tool. A second part of the program consists of an introduction to Excel spreadsheets. "The goal is to help people that need to learn the basics either for the workplace, to help with a job search, fill out an application on-line, or if they're looking to go back to school," said senior program coordinator Alyson Findlay. "We want to pro- vide them with confidence when using a computer." Adult Learning Centre-- Literacy North Halton is a non-profit organization based in Georgetown. In Acton, they also offer a basic literacy program to help individuals with reading, writing and basic math skills--those that are functioning at a grade nine level or lower. These are one-on-one tutorials that run continuously through out the year with day and evening classes available. According to Findlay, the organization also partners with Sheridan College and offers a High School equiva- lency course, although this is only available in Georgetown. Findlay estimates that 50 or more students per year graduate from the computer basics course and it has been a great help to many. There is a $40 resource fee for the classes, but this can be waived or mitigated depending on the student's economic circumstances. Those interested can contact the Adult Learning Centre for an assessment. Adult Learning Centre seeks students for computer basics course
