THE NEW TANNERTHURSDAY, FEBRUARY 08, 2018 13THE NEW TANNER THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 08, 201812 with The New Tanner Sports Hockey RepoRt By: Vivien Fleisher Representatives from the Paul Murr Golf Tournament commit- tee gathered at the Legion in Acton last Wednesday to present a cheque to the Acton Branch of the Can- adian Cancer Society for $51,000. On hand to receive the cheque were Acton Branch chair Cathy Gerrow and Kaitlynn Barrett from the Cambridge district community of- fice. The event started off in 1985 as the "Acton Cancer Society Tour- nament", but in a cruel reminder of why such fundraising efforts are needed, was renamed the "Paul Murr Tour- nament" in 1988 when one of the original founders succumbed to pancreatic cancer. A longtime Acton resi- dent and avid golfer, Murr was pleased to know before he passed that the event was to be renamed in his honour.
