February 19 for Family Day Hillsview RepoRt By: Julie Conroy Our monthly Bingo will be held on Saturday, February 17 in the com- munity hall. It starts at 7 p.m. Everyone seems to enjoy playing with the sheets and "dabbers", and the prize money is a little larger now. Of course, the more that play, the higher the prize money. The next Men's Break- f a s t i s o n Tu e s d a y, February 27. There will be a guest speaker. There was a lot of inter- est in the conversational French class which started on January 29. It's great to see so many people in- terested in expanding their knowledge in this way. 26 people en joyed the Lunch and Learn on Tuesday, February 6. Dennis Dimitroff gave them insight into scams and frauds that seniors need to be aware of. The next Lunch and Learn is on Tuesday, March 6. The lunch that week will be chilli and a roll, and the speaker will be from a retirement home in Ac- ton--Christie House. At the February fund- r a i s i n g m e e t i n g w e discussed the next Wine and Cheese evening to be held on March 23. It should be very interesting. Ken Flynn is a teacher in Georgetown and has writ- ten several books. One is about his grandfather coming from Portugal as a young man and his life here. You will enjoy a "Taste of Portugal" when sipping a glass of wine and treats. It is always interesting learning how people came from many countries and made Can- ada their home. 62 people enjoyed the early Valentine Dinner and dance on Monday, Febru- ary 12. Ronnie Russell provided the music. The next social dinner will be on Wednesday, March 14 when we celebrate St. Pat- rick's Day with Irish stew, salad and rolls. The enter- tainment will be Norm Mason. 21 people enjoyed their visit to Mexico. Seven went for 10 days and the others stayed for two weeks. We all enjoyed the weather, hospitality, beautiful grounds and the hotel. We enjoyed learning about the Maya civilization while visiting Tulum, and some took the long bus trip to Chichen Itza and Coba. We are now looking forward to our next adventure in June when we travel to Van- couver, take the Alaskan Cruise and fly home from Anchorage. If you have the win- ter blues and need little break, Florence at the Georgetown Centre still has a few seats left for the dinner theatre "The Show Must Go On" at Niagara on Wednesday, March 21. You would get picked up in Acton. Just a reminder: The Centre will be closed for Family Day on Monday, February 19. There was no winner this Friday for the 50/50 draw. Frances tells me that Betty Brewer and she both had mooners while playing bid euchre last Thursday. Lunch on Friday, Feb- ruary 23 is soup and sandwiches. ALL THAT JAZZ: Kalya Ramu and her Hot Four returned for a second year to the Acton Town Hall Centre for Heritage Acton's "Speakeasy". Ramu preforms jazz music inspired by Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, and Doris Day. - Les Schmidt photo SPEAKEASY BUSTED: A raid on the Heritage Acton's Speakeasy was part of the night's entertainment. - Submitted photos
