By: Vivien Fleisher T h e M a c D o n a l d family in Acton was overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and support at a fundrais- er they held Saturday night at the Acton Le- gion for sister Debbie Armstrong. Armstrong, who is battling cancer, was not in attendance; as sister Jenn Dunn said, they "just wanted her to focus on getting better." The event was a huge success, featuring five bands, door prizes, and a silent auction, with many local businesses either donating their services or prizes for the raffle-- too many to list in fact. Another sister, Donna Gaudet, spoke about the incredible experience of seeing so many family and friends rally, con- tributing time, money and emotional support, and that they are all "still in awe from this amazing event which was a huge success. Seeing so many friendly faces and truly amazing people come together to show their love made us feel very special. We will never forget it." To make things even better, though, the tim- ing of the event--on St. Patrick's Day-- was a bonus for the way it contributed to the up- beat mood. The event sold out quickly, and by all indications, would have been even big- ger had the space been larger. Brother James M a c D o n a l d s a i d h e heard from many who expressed love for their community because of the way people look out for one another, and all felt the positive energy in the room really con- tributed to the overall success and great time. The four siblings, in- cluding sister Charlene Parker, expressed deep gratitude for all the love and support from the community. Acton family feels the love at fundraiserFire report Many Irish and "Irishish" eyes were smiling at the Acton Legion for St. Patrick's Day on Saturday night. The capacity crowd event was a fundraiser organized by Jennifer Dunn and three of her siblings for their sister Debbie who is battling stage three breast cancer. There were five bands set to play and the event was MC'd by Ryan from the Toronto radio station Q107. - Les Schmidt photos
