The games are experi- encing a huge resurgence. In particular, millennials are jumping on the board game wagon with gusto. For many, games like Catan are the foundation for a social evening with friends. The games may also promote brain stimula- tion which could help avert certain conditions such as dementia. If your brain stays strategic and engaged, it may help the mind keep active and healthy. Some of the games now offered for borrowing at the library include Ca- tan, Sushi Go, Exploding Kittens, Blokus and Pan- demic. "I'm very excited to be officially launching this collection of board games; we think they're going to be very popular," said Douglas Davey, Manager of Chil- dren's and Youth Services. "Board games are a great way for family and friends to spend time together, and now our patrons can bor- row them free of charge." Newcomers can benefit from socializing by play- ing board games as well. The library offers "Board Games for Newcomers," a program designed to assist newcomers to Canada with learning English and to so- cialize. The programs run the last Saturday of every month at the Georgetown Branch. Lee Puddephatt, Com- munity Librarian, says the program has been very well received. "We encourage new Canadians and their fam- ilies to drop in to enjoy board games. In addition to Canadian games, we offer a selection of inter- nationally popular games in a variety of languages."
