Tyler Transport busses will no longer be transporting our children to school this com- ing fall. The school boards have chosen to go in a dif- ferent direction on who will be transporting your kids. Tyler Transport have bussed kids to and from school since 1948. They have had an amazing record of 98 per cent delivery on schedule. An amazing feat when you consider driving through all kinds of inclement weather that we experience in Halton Hills. Tyler Transport not get- ting the bid also means there will be some negative ef- fects on local business that work with Tyler Transport. They have run the Town's Activan Service, subsidized field trips for our summer school programs, pitched in years ago when the school boards cancelled buses from Georgetown South to the high schools at a break-even basis. They have provid- ed bus service for many in town events like the Acton Fall Fair, Fireman's Ball and many others. It's a darn shame. For the life of me, I do not know any company that gets a 10-year contract nowadays. It has cost the Town, you the taxpayer, some coin as with many of these new procurement poli- cies from the Province. The Town has now hired Activan drivers. As a town, we owe the Tyler Family a huge thank you for their service to Hal- ton Hills. Ted, Delores and Angela, on behalf of Coun- cil and residents of the Town, we wish you all the best in your future. **** On our last Regional Council meeting we had a report CA-04-18 on Rural Broadband s tudy. The provision of high speed broadband internet is the responsibility of the Feder- al Government through the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission CRTC. Your councillors support basic internet services to rural Hal- ton. This is not a luxury but a necessity in today's world. **** Georgetown Soccer is celebrating their 50th an- niversary this year. Soccer has grown significantly over that time, and today there are over 2,500 kids enrolled. On behalf of Council, special thanks to all of the volunteers who sat on as the executives, coached, managed, and those who sponsored the teams. Georgetown Soccer is a great success story in our town. **** Three other great organiza- tions reaching milestones are Georgetown Kiwanis who are celebrating 60 years, and the Georgetown Knights of Columbus celebrating 50 years, along with the Georgetown Little Theatre Youth Group will be cele- brating 15 years. Special congratulations to Vanderburgh Flowers, who just celebrated 42 years in business. **** Keeping it real!
