On Sunday, July 14, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. experience hands- on learning about Xeriscape and "Butterfl y" Gardens. Come when you can, for as long as you can. You will have a chance to learn more about the both the butter- fl ies and the plants that support their four-stage life cycle through physical projects of gardening and inventorying of the Willow Park Butterfl y Gardens and its inhab- itants. Attain insights into xeriscape gardening as volunteers rework the Willow Park entrance with xeriscape garden features.Xeri- scape gardens are created by pair- ing drought tolerant plants with other species needing the same amount of sun and moisture, and adding a variety of stone elements to hold in moisture and keep soil warm. Other projects may include tree planting, bridge painting and pathways resurfacing. Other park events include: July 21,1-4 p.m. where volunteers are needed to help during the Big Daddy Festival Raindate event including the Paddle-to-the-Sea boat race. And on July 30-31 you can get trained and experienced in tree inventory projects alongside of the Ministry of Natural Resources Stewardship Rangers.
