Thank you to all of the volunteers that helped make Canada Day a huge suc- cess. The fi reworks are always beautiful. It makes the evening light up the sky. Thank you to all of the fi remen. Your light show was beautiful. Every year it gets better. Recently teams from the branch went to district horseshoes in Water- down. Keith Andrews and Teresa Uit- erwyk came in fi rst in doubles. Amy Newman came in fi rst in singles and in senior shoes Bob Merrikin and Dave Windsor came in third. By SHARON A. GRAHAM Acton Legion news Let's hope for a better week ahead so we can sit on the patio and enjoy the view of the lake. With all of this rain it is hard to plan anything at all. Here's hoping everyone enjoys their summer hol- idays. Comrades, the branch will be closed this coming Sunday (July 14) for maintenance but will be open again next Sunday. *** On June 23, we had our Honours and Awards cer- emony. This was a special day for four members who received their life memberships. Con- gratulations to Keith Andrews, John McNabb, Jim Thornhill and Kerwin McPhail. These gentlemen have worked very hard around the branch and in the community and deserve a life member- ship for all they have done. We also had initiation of seven new members: Vicki Anderson, Debra Crooks, Chad Crooks, Nancy Johnston, Ida Bogartaj and Patricia Schouteten. Congratulations to you all. Our awards were service pins for associate members who have been mem- bers for many years: 25-year pins, W. Ingles, L.B. Synnott; 30- year pins went to M. Dear, M.F. Louttet and J.W.
