(A) Denturist WE BUILD BEAUTIFUL SMILES! Consultations are always free!! The Wild things people have done to hang on to their teeth are enough to make your molars ache! Chances are, you brushed your teeth today…probably with a pleasant, minty paste. How would you enjoy using wine vinegar and pumice instead, like the Egyptians did or how about Roman style tooth powders of ground eggshells, bones, crabs, animals hooves and lizard livers mixed with a little honey to make it real tasty? Hippocrates, the famous Greek, cleaned his teeth with a powder of burnt hare's head and three mice. The wild things people have done through the ages to care for and hang on to their teeth are enough to make your molars ache!! And it's no wonder that so many people have dentures today. In the old days, dentists did not have the bedside manner they do today! And not to mention the dreaded drill they used, without any freezing, as they pumped the drill speed with their foot, creating a less than even spin!! Ouchhhhhhhhh! It's really no wonder that people were scared to death of dentists!!! They have come a long way since the torture days, thank goodness!! At least when Denturists work on your teeth, you can just take them out and hand them over!!! Much easier! WAY BACK WHEN… Terry Fox pal seeks mystery man in photo Who is the man in the white pants? Bill Vigars knew Canadian icon Terry Fox well during his time as his public relations manager and co-ordinator of the running routes through parts of Quebec and Ontario during Fox's histor- ic attempt to run across Canada. However, there is another in- dividual from a brief period dur- ing the cancer fundraising Mara- thon of Hope of 1980 that Vigars doesn't know as well but would like to identify and contact. Vigars, now 66, remembers the relatively tall, thin young man with seemingly straight, medium length, sandy-coloured hair for being a quiet, polite, well-mannered person. But he can't remember his last name or much else about him. In a phone call from British Columbia, Vigars said he has been trying to fi gure out who the man is in a photo that Fox's younger brother, Darrell, sent to him recently. The blurry photo, from around mid- to late July 1980, is of Terry shooting hoops with Vigars, Vigars' young son Patrick, Fox's best friend and van driver Doug Alward and the individual known only as Cam, who was supposedly from Burlington. The photo was taken on the Lott farm property, on RR 25 (Hwy. 25) in Acton. Vigars said the Fox entourage is trying to re-con- nect with certain people as a national touring dis- play of Fox memorabilia is being planned for 2015. It is to travel across the country until 2017 as part of Canada's 150th anniversary. Fox started running on April 12, 1980, by dipping his artifi - cial right leg, which he had lost to cancer, in the Atlantic Ocean off St. John's, Newfoundland. On Sept. 1, 1980, after 143 days and 5,373 km (3,339 miles) Fox had to stop running outside of Thunder Bay, Ont. as cancer had returned and spread to his lungs. He died June 28, 1981 in B.C., exactly one month shy of his 23rd birthday. "I know it is like looking for a needle in a haystack, but I am sure that Cam would like to re- connect with the 1980 team," Vigars said. "He travelled with the entourage for about a week, maybe a little less, from around Georgetown to Gravenhurst, helping out on the day-to-day jobs." Vigars said all they know about Cam is that he was from Burlington, was well-groomed and that he volunteered to collect money being donated along Fox's running route along the lakeshore. If you think you know who the mystery man in the photo is, contact Bill Vigars at Vigarspr@hot- mail.com.
