One tenant of the building at 115 John St., who did not want her name published, said the non-functioning elevator has been a recurring issue since May 17. It's fi xed, works for a short while, then it's out of order again. As of Tuesday afternoon (July 16) the tenants had been without an elevator since July 10, but fortunately it was repaired and functional again Tuesday evening. When the elevator's not working Jean Magee, 84, who walks with a cane and lives on the sixth fl oor, is forced to stay in her apartment because it's very diffi cult to get up and down the stairs. She's thrilled the elevator's working again but wonders for how long. "This elevator, sometimes it works and some- times it doesn't," said Magee. "We've always had trouble with it." While it's functioning she's been taking her laundry down to the laundry room and been able to get outside. "It's really not fair, it's been ridiculous," said the tenant, who didn't want her name used. "It's an issue for the seniors here." The tenants in the John St. building were not the only ones without working elevators across the province during a two-month long elevator technician strike that ended June 28. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh! While most of the GTA was whining about the extreme heat this week, Jordan Ball, 8, was using it to her full advantage as she spent time with friends at the Dominion Gar- dens Splash Pad, running through the water, while cooling herself down. The heat alert is expected to last the rest of the week and the Town has extended the hours at splash pads as a result. For a full story visit www.theifp.ca.
