Downtown Georgetown - Corner of Mill Street & Guelph Street Close to Home. Far from Ordinary. 310 Guelph St., Georgetown 905-873-4405 INFINITY JEWELLERY ~ WITH DIAMONDS Available Gold or Silver From $225 Memorial Arena is going to get a big send-off on July 26-28 at Homecoming 2013. It seems all of Georgetown is sad to see her go. We recently asked readers to send in personal stories about their times past at the Memorial Arena. Here are a few: Mandy (Armstrong) Rogers remem- bers going to the Bantam tournament: "We were around 13 years old and our parents actually let us out unsupervised to attend the Bantam Tournament and we WALKED to the old arena. While we were busy checking out all the cute boys (who ac- tually watched the game?) a puck hit me on the side of the head. I must have blacked out for a few seconds and then saw multiple people standing over me, my head hurt and I was bleeding just above my ear. I didn't care about the pain. I was just mortified that all the attention was on me." Happily, Mandy survived to tell the tale and to take on the job of secretary of the Homecoming Committee. Glenn Fendley wrote in to say that he met his wife Mary at a Georgetown Raiders hockey game in 1975. Clearly, they were focused on something besides the game and the sparks were fly- ing faster than the skates. Good thing, be- cause the old arena is well known for being FREEZING. "We got married in 1981 and had two girls who learned to skate in the old barn. What great memories!" Chris (Sargent) Briggs and her hus- band Bill met there in 1966. Bill was a roller skate patrol person and when Chris skated by, she caught his eye. Chris reports that they spend many nights skating while the live band played in the middle of the floor. They are still happily married 44 years later. We didn't need eHarmony back in the day...we had the arena! So here it is.....the last chance to meet someone fabulous at the old arena. Wheth- er you grew up here or you enjoyed watch- ing your kids play hockey there, come to the arena on Friday and Saturday night of Homecoming (see www.Georgetown- homecoming2013.com for details). Regis- ter on line ($35 for the weekend) or pick up a form at JV Clothing, Silvercreek Café, the library or Hungry Hollow Smokehouse. Memorial memories
