•T he I FP • H al to n H ill s •T hu rs da y, A ug us t 1 5, 2 01 3 14 Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette re- cently presented Dr. Dina Nahab with a cheque for $15,000, as she has joined the Acton Medical and Urgent Care Centre. Dr. Nahab received the funding through the Physician Recruitment Program which was initiated in 2003 to recruit family doctors to the community. The program provides a $5,000 grant and a $10,000 in- terest-free loan, repayable over five years. The funds can be used to purchase equip- ment or set up an office. The doctor agrees to maintain an active family practice for a minimum of five years. Dr. Nahab was educated at Baghdad University in Iraq and completed her in- ternship at the Jordan Royal Medical Ser- vices Hospital. After obtaining her medical degree, Dr. Nahab immigrated to Canada, and set up a practice in Newfoundland, completing her six-month residency there. With family located in southern Ontario Dr. Nahab decided to establish a family practice in Acton. She is currently accepting new patients and may be contacted at 519-853-4449. The Town of Halton Hills works closely with the Region of Halton to attract and retain family physicians in the community. Halton Region's Physician Recruitment Program was established in 2003 and has helped bring 182 new family doctors to Halton including 24 to Halton Hills. "Halton Hills is a great place to live and work and having local medical care is very important to maintain our high quality of life" said Bonnette. "Our program has been successful in assisting doctors to establish new family practices and so far this year we have welcomed three new physicians."
