At approximately 11 a.m. Tuesday, Town employee Roger Vanderham used a canoe to go out to retrieve what he though was a goose and was stunned to discover it was a body. "I was shocked," said Vanderham, who called police. Hellam said he had "butterfl ies" in his stomach when the learned the body was human. "It makes you wonder why these things have to happen." Police responded, cordoned off Prospect Park near the lake, and sent a member of its marine unit into the water to retrieve the body. The coroner was also called to the scene. A handful of neighbours came out to see what was happening and were shocked to learn a body had been found. "Nothing seems to happen around here," said Connie Ladner, who lives in a nearby senior's residence. When she heard the news she immediately checked on her neighbour who has Al- zheimer's and was relieved to fi nd she was home and wasn't missing. "I've lived here for 20 years and I've never seen anything like this," said area resident Jen MacDonald. An eagle-eyed neighbour has led to the arrest of two Mississauga men in connection with three break-ins in ru- ral Halton Hills. During the morning of Wednesday, August 7, a 22 Sideroad resident no- ticed an unfamiliar pick-up truck in the neighbourhood. The resident watched as a male left the truck and knocked on the front door of a neighbouring home. When no one answered, the man went to the rear of the home. A short while later he returned to the truck carrying a backpack. The ve- hicle then left the area and the citizen reported the incident to police. Offi cers located the truck and its two occupants a short distance away. After a brief investigation, the men were ar- rested for break and enter. A search of the vehicle uncovered stolen property which had been taken from three near- by residences. Charged with three counts each of break and enter and possession of a break-in instrument are Alexander McEachern, 27, and Antonio Caded- du, 21, both of Missis- sauga. No one was in- jured. Charged with impaired driving and having over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood is Michael McGrath, 61. • • • Guns stolen during an Acton break-in were recovered in Milton Tuesday night (Aug. 6) after Halton Police in- vestigated a call from the public about suspicious people. Just after midnight, police respond- ed to the area of Robarts and Buck Drives, where they located a stolen 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, abandoned at the roadside. The vehicle had been taken from St. Alban's Drive in Acton and was used during a break-in at a residence on May Street in Georgetown earlier that day. During the break-in, suspects smashed a basement window and took a gun safe that held fi ve fi rearms and ammunition, along with jewelry and digital equipment. Two suspects were arrested by police after an investigation. Ahmad Wali Amiri, 19, of Oakville was arrested on Tuesday and a second person, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested on Wednesday in Missis- sauga. Both were charged with theft of a motor vehicle, break enter and commit an indictable offence, possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, unau- thorized possession of a fi rearm-- fi ve counts-- and possession of break and enter tools.
