The fair is set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 13-15) at Acton Fair- grounds. The fair's 100th Anniversary Parade will get underway at noon Saturday and will feature the Royal Grenadiers and the 48th Highlanders bands who both played dur- ing the 1913 edition of the fair. Fair-goers will be able to take in various historical demonstrations throughout the grounds including a functioning steam en- gine and old-time demonstrations such as spinning, weaving and quilting. Also in honour of the fair's 100 years David Cavan Fraser will present Music through the Ages featuring songs from each decade since 1913 at 3 p.m. in the Acton Agricultural Society (AAS) Dufferin Com- munity Centre. Jill Medland, AAS secretary-treasurer said Mental Floss Sideshow-- an old-time sideshow-- will perform throughout the day on both Saturday and Sunday. "We're the best little fair in Ontario, come out and find out why," she said. The entertainment lineup at this year's fair will also include Larry Melton Band playing as part of the Miss Acton 50th an- niversary competition and the opening cer- emonies of the Fair set for 8 p.m. Friday. The Amateur Battle of the Bands will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday in the Duffer- in Centre. Local talent will compete for a $1,000 recording session and $300 cash. Along with the popular midway, other events over the weekend include the Heavy Horse Pull at 7 p.m. Friday, the Northern Borders Flyball and Canine Performance Team at 11 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday. The Baby Show will be held at a new time--10:30 a.m. Saturday. Other Saturday events include 4-H Beef Cattle Show at 10:30 a.m., and Heavy Horse Show, Light Horse Show at 11 a.m. On Sunday at 10 a.m. the Poultry Dis- play and Homecraft Exhibition open and the English and Western Gymkhana show and games begin. On Sunday the Dairy Cattle Show will start at 11 a.m., the Highway Truck Pull will begin at 11:30 a.m., and the Antique Tractor Pull and 4x4 Truck Pull at noon. The Pet Show will begin at 1 p.m. and a farmers' market will open (south side of the Dufferin Centre) at that time as well.
