Sept 21, 2013 • @ 8:00 pm Mattamy Theatre Milton, Ontario 1010 Main Street East with Rudy and the Angels band Top Ten in Memphis Pete Paquette featuring Residents can share 'Vision' on development of 1,000 acres Halton Hills residents will get their chance to have their say on the next ma- jor expansion of Georgetown at a special meeting Monday at the Halton Hills Cul- tural Centre. Vision Georgetown-- the branding name for the planning pro- cess-- will look at developing a land use plan and subwater- shed plan for the newest ur- ban area of Halton Hills: 1,000 acres bounded by 15 Sideroad, Eighth Line, 10 Sideroad and Trafalgar Rd. The area will house up to 20,000 people, plus schools, parks, community, institu- tional and commercial build- ings. The Southwest George- town Land Owners Group (SWGLG), which includes Mattamy Homes, Remington Homes, Country Homes, Lormel Homes and Conservatory Group, is the primary de- veloper of the project. A Community Information Session will be held on Monday, Sept. 16, 6:30 p.m. (a presentation will begin at 6:45 p.m.) in the Helson Gallery of the Hal- ton Hills Cultural Centre, 9 Church St. At this meeting residents will meet the study team, learn about the project and help define the key issues. It will be the first of many public consultation meetings in the six-phase project that will be completed in 2016. "This is one of the largest developments in the history of our Town. It is critically important that residents participate and share their ideas. We hope to have a good turnout for this first of many sessions," said Mayor Rick Bonnette. Council's vision for the area is to be "people-friendly, more walkable, cycle-friendly, more community-oriented, green sustainable initiatives, with dif- ferent styles of parkland and retail plazas." But, council does not want the new community to stand-alone, but to be inte- grated into the existing com- munity. A selection of a land use plan will be made at the end of Phase 2. The project consulting team will include Meridian Planning Consul- tants, AECOM, Planning Alliance, and GLPi. The $1.18 million cost for the con- sultants will be split between the Town ($100,000) and the SWGLG ($970,000). The Project Steering Committee will be led by Councillor Moya Johnson with members that will include the Mayor and Councillors Clark Somerville, Jane Fogal and Ann Lawlor. To find out more, the Town has set up a project website at www.visiongeorge- town.ca. There residents can sign-up for regular updates, fill in a survey and get background information.
