Police station study concerns councillor Halton Hills Wards 1&2 Region- al Councillor Clark Somerville ex- pressed concern at Monday's coun- cil meeting about the possibility of amalgamating the Georgetown and Milton police stations. At the September Halton Police Services Board meeting, board mem- bers approved a feasibility study for the consolidation of the Georgetown and Milton police stations into one site. "That one concerns me," said Somerville said. "I know we haven't had any discussion or any feedback coming from the police here." Somerville is concerned about los- ing police services, pointing to con- solidation of the two village consta- bles positions into one for both Acton and Georgetown. He added he would not like to see a similar situtation in Georgetown that is currently happening in Acton where the "station" for the most part is unmanned. "That is tremendous concern for me as well," he said. "I know the site here (at 217 Guelph St.) is probably constrained." Mayor Rick Bonnette reported that Police Chief Stephen Tanner will be a guest delegate at the Oct. 7 council meeting and councillors can question him about this issue. By CYNTHIA GAMBLE Staff Writer Cost of new police HQ pegged at $66M A feasibility study for the construction of a new headquarters for Halton Regional Police puts the estimated price tag at near- ly $70 million, a cost expected to be borne solely by Halton taxpayers. A presentation on preliminary design features of a new HQ was presented by a representative of the design consulting firm Stantec Architecture at the Sept. 19 Halton Police Services Board meeting. The cost of a new, larger, stand-alone facility for police has been tabbed at $66.85M. Police Chief Stephen Tanner, his two deputy chiefs and the seven-member po- lice services civilian board were told by the Stantec rep that the new headquarters would need to have about 209,000 square feet of gross floor area to accommodate near future and longer term police needs.
