Fraser and his wife Heather operate Wheelbarrow Orchard on 10 Sideroad, east of Hwy. 25. Their crop has been outstanding, which seems to be the norm in Halton Region, not to mention the GTA. "Last year, we were lucky-- we only lost about 60 per cent of our crop," said Brad. "We knew of some (orchard owners) who lost 80 per cent of their crop-- which was the provincial average." But Fraser is more then pleased with the yield of apples he's seeing. "Last year, we had one row of trees that gave us three bushels (of apples) from the entire row," said Brad. "This year, that same row has yielded about 100 bush- els-- that's quite a difference." The great apple crop is not limited to the Frasers' operation. Kelly Ciceran, general manager of the Ontario Apple Growers, said it's a province-wide good news story. "Comparing last year's crop with this year is like comparing night and day," said Ciceran. "We have an amazing crop of beauti- ful apples across the province and our growers are very excit- ed about this year's apple crop. We've had good growing condi- tions which are reflected in the taste of the apples." With their five acres of or- chard, the Frasers' pick your own orchard has been open since La- bour Day weekend, and it's ex- pected they will be offering pick- your-own apples to customers until Thanksgiving weekend. Last year the crop was 'picked out' by September 15.
