Oct 6 An Acton man was charged with posses- sion of crack cocaine after a vehicle roared past a Halton Regional Police officer con- ducting a traffic stop Tuesday (Oct. 1) in the area of 22 Sideroad and the Fourth Line. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and the officer left the traffic spot in pursuit. After pulling the vehicle over, the officer detected an odour of cannabis marijuana and the driver was arrested. A search of the driver and the vehicle turned up a gram of crack cocaine. Charged is William Thorpe, 55. • • • Halton Regional Police conducted a RIDE program spot check in the Guelph St.-Delrex Blvd. area at around 10:30 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 3) when a man was arrest- ed for suspicion of impaired driving. Upon approaching the vehicle, an offi- cer developed grounds to believe the driver had been drinking. A roadside test was administered and the driver's reading failed the screening de- vice and blood samples taken at the HRPS station failed as well. Charged with impaired driving and having over 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood is David Rae, 47, of Georgetown. • • • Halton Regional Police are crediting an arrest in connection with a burglary spree in Acton early Thursday morning (Oct. 3) to an alert citizen. At around 3 a.m., a resident contacted police after observing a suspicious person peeking into vehicles on Dawkins Cres. Uniformed officers quickly responded to the area and located a suspect who was in possession of several stolen articles. Charged with theft under $5000, pos- session of property obtained by crime and possession of burglary tools is Noah Gard- ner, 18, of Acton. The accused was released and will ap- pear in Milton court on November 18. Police applaud the involvement of the community member in this matter that led to the successful apprehension of the ac- cused and the recovery of stolen property. Police continue to encourage members of the community to contact police when they observe suspicious persons or activity and if they witness a crime to call 9-1-1. The community is also reminded to lock their vehicles and remove all valuables from within to prevent being victimized. Police executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at 11537 Fifth Line Friday (Sept. 27) and found the various-sized plants in the harvesting stage. Police also seized a small amount of dried marijuana from inside the residence. Charged with possession of a controlled substance and production of a controlled substance is Larry Batten.
