•T he IFP• H alton H ills, Thursday, O ctober 10, 2013 29 Happy 50th Anniversary Yvonne & Dougie From Your Family & Friends Dorothy Young (nee Scott) 1923 - 2013 After a short episode of pulmonary distress, Dorothy Young passed away comfortably and quietly at the Georgetown Hospital Thursday October 3rd, 2013 one month after celebrating her 90th birthday. Dorothy was born in Leeds Yorkshire England. She was in the Women's Air Force during the war and it was then and there she met, fell in love with and married her to-be life-long best friend Stuart, who was stationed in Yorkshire, a sergeant in the RCAF. Dorothy joined Stuart in Toronto after the war where he attended the University of Toronto, securing his degree in Pharmacy. Dorothy came to Canada as a "war bride" not knowing if she would ever visit England again. Dorothy was welcomed into Stuart's family by his mother, two brothers, three sisters and their families. Dorothy worked as a hairdresser and supported the both of them until Stuart completed his studies and became a licensed pharmacist. After residing in Harrow in South West Ontario for a year, Dorothy and Stuart moved to Georgetown where Stuart gained e m p l o y m e n t a t R o b b ' s D r u g S t o r e o n Georgetown's Main Street, a place where he had worked as an apprentice before he enlisted in the RCAF. In Georgetown, Dorothy became a mother to Neil and Gail. In 1957 Robb's Drug Store was purchased and became Young's Pharmacy. Dorothy was a loving mother and a successful housewife. In spite of this she was able to pursue her athletic abilities in sports that she shared with her best friend Stuart, namely golf during warm weather and curling during the colder times. Dorothy was an athletic youth and as an adult her exceptional abilities combined with her gentle but very competitive nature led her to numerous championships both in golf and curling. Golf, h o w e v e r w a s h e r p a s s i o n a n d h e r g o l f championship wins extended into her seventies. Happy circumstances allowed them both to play many rounds in her and Stuart's retirement, a period which lasted over 40 years. Occasionally she would let Stuart win. Dorothy's other interests were many and varied and included drawing, painting, creating handicrafts, and travel. Dorothy and Stuart enjoyed many trips and adventures in their motor home touring Canada and the United States, and in their later years they especially enjoyed cruising. Dorothy's pride in and love for h e r c h i l d r e n , g r a n d c h i l d r e n a n d g r e a t - grandchildren was immense. She also loved the dogs in her l i fe and they her.
