(A) Denturist SMILE WITH CAUTION IF YOUR DENTURES ARE MORE THAN 5 YEARS OLD If you have been wearing the same dental prosthesis for more than 5 years without having it checked by your Denturist, you are running unnecessary risks. Too many people believe that dentures are good for 20 years. Nothing could be further from the truth! The removable prosthesis is made of a hard, rigid material, your face, mouth and jaw, on the other hand change over the years. Because it cannot adapt to these changes and because artificial teeth wear down with time, a prosthesis cannot do its job effectively for more than about five years. This reality can have devastating consequences that are often invisible and imperceptible to the wearer of a worn-out denture. Here is a short list of the most harmful possible effects suffered by wearers of dentures more than 5 years old: Softening of the tissues Painful, irritated tissues More laborious chewing and difficult digestion Headaches, ear aches, neck pain and joint problems Sagging mouth and premature wrinkles Accelerated resorption of the bone - ridge becomes flat …and this is only a partial list! Very few people maintain their prosthesis properly. Don't take chances with your health, see your Denturist annually. And remember, it takes 17 muscles to smile, but only one good Denturist!!! WE BUILD BEAUTIFUL SMILES! Consultations are always free!! Professional Arts Building 99 Sinclair Ave., Suite 210, Georgetown 905-873-6642 Serving the community of Halton Hills and surrounding areas since 1992 GETTING USED TO NEW HEARING INSTRUMENTS The Georgetown Part 1 A patient who has never worn hearing instruments before, or is wearing a new type or circuit may go through a period of adjustment. The following are suggestions to help you through that adjustment period: Don't get discouraged. It may take time to realize the benefit of your hearing instruments. You have been hearing through a damaged system that has delivered distorted signals to your brain. Now the sounds you are being exposed to are louder and different than what you are used to. In time, your brain will adjust to the new signals it is receiving. When you first start wearing the hearing instruments, you will suddenly hear sounds you were previously unaware of. Many you will recognize as sounds you used to hear before you had a hearing loss, and others will have to be identified for you. These sounds will seem bothersome at first because you are not used to hearing them. In time, like those with normal hearing, you will unconsciously block out these daily sounds.
