NEW locatio ns 2 Mauve Friday is Coming. Black Friday will never be the same. This past Saturday the Georgetown Bach Chorale and orchestra rehearsed in St. Elias Church prior to their two concerts next weekend. To say that I was impressed is to put it mildly. The choir was in excel- lent voice, singing very excit- edly the Bach Christmas Ora- torio and Magnificat, with the orchestra also in fine form. Other pieces on the programs include the allegro from Bach's Sinfonia for solo violin and orchestra, a wonderful virtuoso piece for solo violin- ist, and two chorales sung by the choir. Although we normally associate Christmas choral presentations as the time for Handel's Messiah, Bach's Christmas Oratorio is a wonderful master work in itself, well worth more exposure. It has several extended and intricate chorus- es that are a joy to hear sung well, and the choir certainly sings them with confidence. Solos are sung by familiar choir members who interact well with the orchestra to show what wonderful music this is. I was excited to see the level which the choir has reached. Now singing with a 14-piece baroque orchestra in such a lovely setting was really a great experience. I hope readers will be enticed to come and hear the chorale and orches- tra under Ron Greidanus' able guidance, to feel you have been truly entertained to one of the wonderful pieces of Christmas music that has been handed to us by a master composer of the baroque era. Performances are: Christ Church Anglican, 4 Mill St N., in Brampton, Friday, Nov. 22, at 7:30 p.m. and St. Elias Ukraini- an Church, 10193 Heritage Rd., just east of Norval, Sunday, Nov. 24, at 2:30 p.m. Please note the times. By IAN OLDAKER Georgetown Bach Chorale The Georgetown Little Theatre Studio at 33 Stewarttown Road, is a hive of activity as the Y1A (Youth One Act) gets ready to tread the boards on Nov. 28-30 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. Although these plays are directed and produced by the talented under age 18 crowd, by their resulting work, you would think these young people had lengthy re- sumes and a world of experience in the the- atrical community. This season they are presenting four very unique one acts. The Freudian twisted, Echo by Joseph Shipley, directed by Myra Kohler gives insight into a mans' inward thoughts, rational, and emotions. Directed by Dylan Mayberry & Scott Taylor, a busker is confronted by two chick- ens in the park, and discovers, miraculous- ly, in A Time of Green that they are able to communicate. David Auburn's Miss You is an unusual story about two couples rear- ranged by call-waiting and is directed by Beth Jorgensen & Samantha Burwell. The final work, an original piece, written by Bo- zidar and Vuk Marekic is directed by Vuk. Room with a View and a Staircase and a Pond is the story of Sebastian, a nervous cellist who has recently had his Stradivari- us cello stolen. Add an underhanded criminal brother- in-law and you have the makings of a great play. You certainly don't want to miss this theatrical production that showcases the talents of the Georgetown Little Theatre Youth Company. For tickets ($10), call 905-877-3422.
