•T he IFP• H alton H ills, Thursday, January 3, 2013 3 Residents will soon notice a dramatic difference in the landscaping on Hwy. 7 near Norval as they enter and exit Georgetown. Site preparation, including removal of trees and shrubs, will start on Mon- day (Jan. 7) to make way for Menkes Development Corporation's "The En- claves of Upper Canada." The project is a 184-home development at the northeast corner of Guelph Street and McFarlane Drive in Halton Hills. Halton Hills Council provided draft approval for the project on September 24. That approval was the fi nal step in a multi-year review process that included feedback from the public, Town staff, Halton Region, Credit Valley Conservation Authority and the Ontario Min- istries of Tourism, Culture & Sport; Environment; and Transporta- tion. Mayor Rick Bonnette said, "Halton Hills will benefi t through upgrades to the Storm Water Management and Treatment Pond for the Armstrong Industrial Park. The developer is also contrib- uting $1,000 per residential lot to the Georgetown Arena Fund." Menkes has committed to additional environmental initia- tives for this project including: • Adhering to the Town's 23-point Green Development Evalu- ation Checklist • Enhancing Storm Water Management and Treatment by adding one pond on the property and upgrading one pond near- by • Building a chain link fence on the back of the property to prevent residents from hiking down into sensitive areas of the Credit River Valley • Meeting the Town's Urban Design Guidelines with ex- tensive landscaping, tree preservation where possible and creation of a new public park and green space.
