The folks at the Halton District School Board hope to rectify that. The board of trustees voted unanimously at last Wednesday's meeting to have the director and his staff develop and implement strate- gies to secure supervision for extracurricular activities. The motion asks for the inclusion of volunteer involvement. Board staff have already made such at- tempts, director of education David Euale said. "We have been trying to attempt to pro- vide supervision for extracurricular activities in light of the labour unrest over the last few months," he told trustees. However, he noted the motion from the board of trustees solidifi es the board's actions and provides staff members with some direc- tion. Extracurricular activities have been can- celled in public schools after teachers in the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation have cut their involvement. The extracurricular ban is in response to the provincial government's use of Bill 115, which froze teachers wages, cut benefi ts and took away teachers' bargaining rights.
