Volunteers make a tremen- dous contribution in our local communities, across the coun- try and around the globe. What are you doing? Students at Silver Creek Public School have been working hard this year with charitable foundations, Free The Children and Me to We. Me to We is based on the premise that every- one can make a difference in all our actions--small or large. Many Halton schools now undertake initiatives that teach students how they can make a difference. Silver Creek is working to- wards becoming a "We School" and students have been supporting various campaigns to support local and global charities such as providing food dona- tions for the Georgetown Bread Bas- ket and raising funds towards Clean Water initiatives for the people of Ke- nya. Recently Silver Creek completed the "We Create Change" campaign by collecting pennies and fi lling $25 penny bags (i.e., 2,500 pennies equals clean water for one person for life). The initial target was 15 bags, but thanks to the efforts of the students, the equivalent of 77,500 pennies or a total of 31 bags was collected.That means by working together, staff, stu- dents, and parents have made a differ- ence to 31 people who, through our efforts, will now have fresh water for the rest of their lives.
