Photo by Ted Brown Grease is the word at Georgetown High School It's been a long time coming, so slick your hair, iron your poo- dle skirt, and step back in time with Georgetown District High School's production of the musi- cal Grease, the number 1 all-time highest-grossing musical in the U.S.A. From construction to cos- tumes, and har- mony to hair, staff from a wide variety of disciplines, and students from Grades 9 to 12 have been work- ing hard on and off stage to pol- ish and perfect the show. Set in the 1950s, the story follows 10 work- ing class teenagers as they navi- gate the complexities of life and love through song and dance. "It's been a fun experience so far because I have made a ton of friendships, and I am really excit- ed for the end result." says Mala- chi Grant, who plays lead, Danny Zuko. Director Mary McIntyre says, "Mounting a main stage musical is something I have wanted to do here at Georgetown for over eight years. This truly is a collaborative effort and I am honoured to be working with such dedicated and talented staff and students". Grade 12 student Chloe Karg- er, who hopes to pursue an acting career, is the show's stage man- ager and says, "being involved in the musical has meant incredible new learning that I wouldn't have had if we didn't do Grease, and being a part of some- thing collective and important to the school com- munity has been amazing". With live mu- sic, talent and a cohesive desire to entertain, Grease is guaranteed to knock your bobby socks off and have you singing the songs long after the curtain has closed! The show dates are: • Thursday, May 9, 7 p.m. • Friday, May 10, 7 p.m. • Saturday, May 11, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets cost $12/adult and $8/ student, available in advance or at the door.
