James Dick Construction Limited has applied to the Ministry of Natural Re- sources (MNR) for a licence to extract up to 700,000 tonnes a year of gravel, sand and dolostone, a sedimentary carbonate rock used in high-strength building con- crete and hot-mix asphalt paving. The site is on the north side of Highway 7 at Sixth Line Eramosa, between Rockwood and Acton. Bonnette said the Town had not been informed about the application but Re- gional Councillor Clark Somerville and Town staff attended a public meeting only after hearing about it through word of mouth at the last minute. "The Town will do as much within our power and endeavour to watch this quarry closely," said the mayor at a recent council meeting. "We will be doing our due diligence."
