They achieved a lifetime ambition by visiting the birthplace of their paternal grandfa- ther John Rognvaldson. (Dorothy mar- ried his son Clarence). John immigrated to Canada in 1876 and settled in Mani- toba. Dorothy had lots of interesting infor- mation about her trip and her impres- sions. She said it is a country of great va- riety with lush countryside, hot springs, lakes and waterfalls. The soil is lava rock and the trees are quite short, and lots of sheep roam the countryside. Their guide told them "If you are lost in the forest stand up". She had a delicious variety of typical Icelandic food including pate, Vinarterta (a layered prune and cookie dough) Pon- nukokur (crepes with icing sugar inside, and rhubarb tort. She also had some of the hand-spun and woven wool scarves, glass, and a spinning wheel. She said it was a won- derful experience. The 40 people present also felt it was a wonderful experience! At Thursday afternoon's Bid Euchre Jean Donnelly and Shirley Hunter both had mooners. The Bazaar was a great success, thanks to all the people who helped ei- ther at the bazaar or before the bazaar. A special thanks to Sobeys who allowed us to sell tickets on the two huge baskets prior to the Bazaar. Kathleen Alder was very happy to hear she held the winning ticket for the lovely baskets and Stepha- nie Westaway won the 50/50. Tuesday, May 21 is the Birthday Tea celebrating birthdays during April and May. You should have received your in- vitation by now, if you haven't, call the Centre and inform the reception desk. On Friday, May 24 the lunch will be lasagna and salad. If you are interested add your name to the list. On Saturday, May 25 we will be vis- iting the St. Lawrence Market and the Ontario Food Terminal. There is a sign- up sheet in front of the reception desk. The travel group has a lot of great trips planned over the next few months. On July 11 there is a trip to Ajax Downs and MacMillan Orchards. It's always great to be able to sit back and let someone else do the driving. The Centre will be closed on Monday, May 20 when we celebrate Victoria Day. John Ashworth was very happy to hear he won the weekly 50/50-- $150. By JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre Acton Seniors Centre to host trips
