Halton school boards celebrate Student Excellence and Sharing the Spirit Marta Kraguljac St. Catherine of Alexandria Marta Kraguljac has been selected as our school's recipient because she dem- onstrates leadership by consistently volunteering within the school. Marta dem- onstrates excellent academic achievement, develops and maintains positive re- lationships with peers and teachers, and demonstrates a sincere commitment to her family. She continually embraces her faith and actively lives her life in light of Gospel values, and she understands her social responsibility to bring values of her faith to the world in which she lives. Veronica Fong Stewarttown Veronica, a Grade 8 student, is strong in academic performance, highly involved in school life-- stu- dent parliament, sports and arts. Also, she is a positive role model, very focused and a hard worker. The Halton Catholic District School Board also hands out its Spirit of Inclusion awards. This system-wide award is presented by SEAC-- Special Education Advisory Committee. The Spirit of Inclusion Award was created by S.E.A.C. to increase the com- munity's understanding and awareness of special needs students in our schools and to promote an all-inclusive Board and school population. Representing secondary students is Marcus Djan-Adams of Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School, Oakville. Marcus is a dynamic, engaged student who has worked to ensure that all students at Holy Trinity feel included. Marcus has been involved in the Spiri- tual and Artistic life of the school community since day one. Representing elementary schools is Jacquelynne Myles of Holy Rosary School, Milton. Without hesitation, Jacquelynne al- ways puts the needs of others before herself. Her cheerful dispo- sition, respectful manner, and sense of humour contribute to a demeanour that makes others feel comfortable and valued in her presence. Marcus Djan-Adams and Jacquelynne Myles HCDSB SEAC Spirit of Inclusion winners Andrew Choi St. Brigid Andrew has been selected as the St. Brigid School recipient due to his exemplary Catholic leadership qualities and overall involvement in school affairs. His positive relation- ship with staff and students, along with his discernible commitment to family and church, are acknowledged and valued by all members of our Catholic faith community. Nicole Castellino St. Joseph Nicole has shown con- sistent dedication and com- mitment to her school com- munity through her role as the Environment Minister and her active involvement in social justice initiatives with the St. Joseph Student Parliament. She con- tinues to grow and explore her faith while dem- onstrating a kind, patient and compassionate at- titude toward others. Emily Santaluce St. Francis of Assisi Emily is an active member of the school and parish com- munity. She is an altar server at weekly masses and volun- teers to help at most parish events (ie coffee Sundays and spaghetti suppers). She is a member of our liturgical committee who run liturgies and events focused on our faith. She is involved in Me to We. Mia, a Grade 12 student, says that having her child Zeda was a huge motivator for her to fi nish high school and go to college. Her quote "It's not just about me anymore" is probably the single most signifi cant reason for her success. In September 2011, Mia enroled in the TEAM program at Gary Allan High School in order to complete her high school educa- tion. It was at TEAM where she successfully completed the re- quirements for the OSSD and received the English profi ciency award. Upon graduation in December 2012, Mia immediately began her studies at Mohawk College where she is currently a student. In addition to her academic success, Mia also volunteered with the Salvation Army as she wanted to give back to organizations that have helped her in the past.
