(A) Denturist SENIORS LIVING "Every Picture Tells a Story" is a new local history project at Georgetown Library featuring photos and stories of Halton Hills' seniors. The fi rst fi ve photos of the project, coordinated by commu- nity volunteer Marinela Batuls- ki, were recently unveiled in the Seniors' Lounge on the lower lever of the library. Batulski, a photographer and former graphic designer, brought new life to the photos with the help of digital scrapbooking. "I thought this was such a great idea," said one of the par- ticipants, Florence Riehl. "We have a lot of interesting people here in Halton Hills with great stories to share from our lives." Her photograph depicts the day in June 1950 when Hanover High School's All Girls Trumpet Band won fi rst place at the Cana- dian Band Festival in Waterloo. "It was the happiest day of my life. The band and our mu- sical director were the reason I stayed in school after Grade 11 and shaped my life the way it is now," said Riehl. Betty McHale is another area senior who shared a photo for the project. Photography was always a passion for her and she was very happy to pull together some of her old pictures to share with others. Other seniors who have shared their memories are Neville Palm- er, Sandy Loke and John Daley. The project will continue with rotating new pictures ev- ery month. All older adults are encouraged to come out. The month of June is a time for seniors to celebrate their lives and the many ways they continue to make their com- munities a better place to live. This year's theme is "The Art of Living." "Seniors are such an impor- tant part of our community," said Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette. "Through their vol- unteer work, their leadership in the community and their inspiration to our young peo- ple." Activities in Georgetown are planned for June 13 and 14 and in Acton on June 25 and 26.
