Description of the Property: The building of original round log construction, and named the Church of Christ by its builder, John Menzies, is presently located at 9924 Winston Churchill Boulevard, Norval, Town of Halton Hills. The property is identified as Lot 10, Concession 11 East, Esquesing and occupies a four acre triangular shaped lot just south of the Tenth Side Road. Legal Description: Lots 5, 6, 7 and 8, Plan 38, Town of Halton Hills, Regional Municipality of Halton (PIN 25027-0040). Statement of Cultural Heritage Value or Interest: The building is of cultural heritage value as one of the few remaining log structures in the province. Constructed of local white pine, the construction technique was typical of early settlement structures with a shallow gable roof and small gable windows. Early twentieth century alterations in the Craftsman-style include the open front porch, entrance door, and wood cladding of exposed log ceiling beams. Sited just south of the village, the building is considered a Norval landmark. The builder of the church, John Menzies, was associated with the early settlement of Esquesing Township and was instrumental in establishing a Disciples of Christ congregation in Norval which is today considered the hub from which their doctrine was spread throughout Ontario. Further information respecting the proposed designation is available for viewing at the Corporate Services Customer Service Counter - Civic Centre, 1 Halton Hills Drive, Georgetown, during regular business hours. Refer to the Norval Church of Christ Designation Report for the description of heritage attributes, site analysis and historical background. Any person may, by July 22, 2013, (within 30 days after the date of the publication of this notice) serve written notice of objection to the proposed designation with Corporate Services - Clerks, together with a statement for the objection and all relevant facts. Dated at the Town of Halton Hills this 20th day of June 2013.
