The World Cup events were awesome to be a part of and to finish second in France re- ally boosted my confidence." In the meantime, Hofland's chanc- es of earning one of three spots for Team Canada at this year's world championships in Antwerp, Belgium in September received a boost thanks to her efforts at the recent Canadian Gymnastics Championships in Ot- tawa. She had a best-ever showing on the uneven bars, taking the gold with a score of 14.5, along with a bronze on the beam to finish fifth overall amongst the senior women's artistic field. "She specializes on bars and beam and she could certainly contribute in that area to Canada's results," Hamer added. "Kait also wants to be in the run- ning for Canada's team at the 2014 worlds, where Canada can qualify a team for the Olympics. It's important to be a part of those team assignments and the Pan-Ams in 2015 in Toronto will be another big stepping stone." Hofland wasn't the only George- town resident and Futures' team member to enjoy success at the artis- tic nationals in Ottawa. National team member Gabriella Douglas, also a CtK student, captured the gold medal in the floor exercise and added a silver on the balance beam in an 11th-place all-around fin- ish. GDHS student Casey Carvalho, also on the senior national squad, placed eighth all-around and eighth on the uneven bars. Douglas has been selected to at- tend a training camp in August and is a candidate to compete at the worlds in Belgium as well. Corbett, who played the power position for the senior boys' volleyball team, led the Bearcats to within one game of a trip to the OFSAA finals and had an excellent season of mixed doubles' badminton with partner Jessica Cutting. He is headed for Conestoga Col- lege in the fall to take woodworking technology. Jolly captained the Acton senior girls to a semifinal showing at GHAC in the left power spot and also starred for the soccer and badminton teams with Natalie Shortt.
