Photo by Ted Brown Looking good at 101 Ice storm price tag tops $3.5 million The Town's clean up from last month's ice storm is going to be expensive. The cost could be about $2.1 million, which doesn't include an estimated $1.5 million spent by Halton Hills Hydro (HHH) to restore pow- er throughout the town. To try to recover some of the costs, Town Council voted Monday night to declare Hal- ton Hills a disaster area and apply for financial assistance from the Ontario Disaster Relief Assistance Program (ODRAP). It also gave Town staff the go-ahead to seek funds from Infrastructure Canada, the Federation of Ca- nadian Municipalities Green Municipal Fund and Ministry of Municipal Affairs. ODRAP only covers incre- mental, extraordinary Town costs, over and above normal expenditures related to the re- sponse and recovery from the ice storm not covered by in- surance. Unfortunately, HHH costs don't qualify for ODRAP funding. "We would be remiss on behalf of our taxpayers if we don't try to get some funding," said Mayor Rick Bonnette. "If we don't ask for it, we won't be getting anything." "We owe it to our taxpayers to try and get whatever fund- ing is out there," said Council- lor Joan Robson. Bonnette will be attending a meeting of GTA mayors and regional chairs in Mississauga tomorrow (Friday) to discuss presenting a unified approach to seek financial relief from See FUNDING, pg. 3 By LISA TALLYN Staff Writer
