Winners of four consecutive Ontario Junior Hockey League games, the Georgetown Raid- ers are looking to clinch home- ice advantage in their opening round playoff series with 10 games remaining in the regu- lar season. The 24-17-2 Raiders went three for three this past week- end, including a pair of wins against the Toronto Jr. Cana- diens in which Georgetown's leading scorer, captain Steve Hladin, struck for four goals in each contest. The weekend began with a surprise 2-1 triumph on Friday evening over the host Aurora Tigers, who are the runaway leaders of the OJHL's North Di- vision with a 31-10-3 mark. Richard Court and Liam Board scored for Georgetown in the victory and rookie net- minder Michael McNiven was named first star for making 35 saves, including a clutch penal- ty-shot stop in the final minute of regulation time. McNiven chalked up his fifth shutout of the campaign at home Saturday, turning aside 34 shots in a 6-0 trouncing of the Jr. Canadiens. Hladin (4), Kyle Allan and Steven Mueller were the goal scorers. The 19-year-old Hladin teamed up with one of the top prospects for this year's On- tario Hockey League draft to prevail over the Jr. Canadiens 7-6 Sunday night in Etobicoke. Hladin had four goals and two assists while 15-year-old Adam Mascherin, who was called up by the Raiders from the Vaughan minor midget AAA Kings, scored once and helped set up five other goals. In Mascherin's only other game with Georgetown this season, the 5-foot-9, 195-pound forward from Maple scored twice in a win over Mississau- ga in a game back in October. The Raiders have another busy weekend on tap with a string of four games in five days, beginning Friday night in Milton against the IceHawks, who hold a one-point lead on Georgetown. Also on the schedule is a home date with last-place Or- angeville on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., followed by a trip to Newmarket Sunday afternoon. The Raiders will host Milton on Tuesday (Feb. 4) in a post- poned game at the Alcott Arena beginning at 8 p.m. Pair of four-goal games for Hladin TEAM OF THE WEEK: North Halton's peewee A Twisters won all six of their games, including a 2-1 victory over Chatham in the final, to earn their third tournament title of the season in Cambridge last weekend.
