Surrendered because she was deemed territorial, protective of the family but ner- vous around new people and animals, Nes- ka did present as a classic troubled teen, fearful, no self-confidence, self-control or self-esteem, bossy yet at the same time un- sure. In her short life, she has learned that the way to deal with scary or unpleasant things is to put on a tough act to, in her view, protect herself. **Neska would require more than one visit from a prospective adopter because she has to get to know you before feeling comfortable and showing her softer side; a game of her beloved fetch might help with bonding! This is not a dog you can just meet and adopt in an hour. Rather than a detriment, her stay at the Shelter has seen some encouraging chang- es and Staff feel that if an experienced own- er can be found who sets rules and bound- aries and enforces them calmly; they will soon uncover a fine little dog. Neska is best suited to experienced adult dog owners, definitely NO CHILDREN. Neska is housebroken, reasonable with other dogs, has her basic commands, okay to walk, must have a fenced yard as she is virtually a teenage puppy and has high energy. Neska loves to play fetch; time and again she brings the Frisbee back; sitting nicely to receive her hot dog! Sometimes on "walkies" she likes to pick up "treasures" that she finds on her journey and carry them back with her: a little twig, a piece of safe garbage....there is an endearing side to Neska that is slowly being uncovered. Call the Shelter at 519-833-2287 or e- mail adoptions@uppercredit.com to ar- range a meet and greet with our little "rough" diamond. Teen Neska is building confidence By JUDITH-ANNE KOLU Upper Credit Humane Society volunteer Paisley was abandoned in a Halton Hills apartment when her owners moved. She was without food for three days in a swel- tering apartment before anyone realized she was left behind. She was scared and mistrust- ful of people when she arrived in her foster home and it has taken months for her to settle in and allow people to handle her. Because Paisley is a young cat (estimated around two years old) she has recovered from her ordeal and now enjoys loving attention from people. To indicate she wants attention Paige head butts hands and reaches out with her paws to tap and say "I'm here". When she's had enough she again taps hands to say "enough", if the message isn't received she gives a gentle nip to say "no more". When Paisley finds her favourite toys: soft balls, she announces her find and waits for her calls to attract someone to play with her. Although there are other cats in her foster home she prefers to play and sleep by herself. At night she sleeps at the bottom of her people's bed, not taking up too much room. Paisley would enjoy living with adults as an only cat or possibly with a passive older cat. She was introduced to friendly dogs and had no difficulties. Paisley will be available for adoption at Pet Valu, 369 Mountainview Rd. S.,1-3 p.m. Other young cats are available for adoption at Pet Valu 235 Guelph St.,11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Info: www.nhkr.ca or Barb, 905-873-8547. By BARB JOHNSON North Halton Kitten Rescue volunteer Paisley is a 'paws-on' young cat TRISH is a 2-year-old friendly, grey and white tabby cat who lan- guidly surveys the activities of the multiple cat room with patience and quiet dignity. The writer had the opportunity to watch Trish while an adopter was selecting a companion cat, it was between Trish and the one who lucked out. Trish did everything possible to make it her…from her gentle paw on the peoples' arm to rubbing around the edge of her cage, …she pled her case with soft mews however, it was not to be, but she continues to be optimistic that she will soon score a home of her own. We find her extremely friendly, loving, enjoys caresses, will cuddle in the air but prefers her feet on the ground or a "cuddle lap" provided. Most of all Trish just enjoys sitting back and watching the action of her companions from a high perch or seeking out an opportunity to catch a window seat where she can look out at the world outside which is her primary enjoyment in life. Trish is very lovable and would get on with another companion cat, or as an only as long as you can provide the petting and loving to make her happy. If you feel Trish might be the right fit for your family please call the Shelter at 519-833-2287 or e.mail adoptions@upper credit.com.
