The list of Courtemanche's volunteer involvement in both the local commu- nity and in school is lengthy, including fundraising activities for Cancer As- sistance Services Halton Hills and the Georgetown Hospital Foundation, as well as participating in the Big Broth- ers/Big Sisters Homework Club. At GDHS, the aspiring teacher as- sisted new students by becoming a Link Crew Leader and has been a member of the Georgetown Leadership Committee, along with co-ordinating the school's dance team. Last year, Courtemanche joined a group from GDHS that helped build the foundation for a school in a village in Kenya and is enthusiastic to share her knowledge of the Free the Children or- ganization with others. The OCNA, through its member com- munity newspapers and with support from TD Canada Trust and Direct Ener- gy, recognizes young people every year who are involved in community service, contribute to the community while liv- ing with a disability, performed an hero- ic act or are "a good kid" who does more than is expected of someone that age.
