The Sabres finished four points ahead of Georgetown in the standings. Since then, they've been one of the OJHL's hottest teams, sweeping the Milton IceHawks in the opening round last week. In other action, the Halton Hills minor midget AA Thunder lost 4-1 on home ice Tuesday to the Stoney Creek Warriors and were eliminated from their OMHA six-point semifinal se- ries 7-5. The Castle Building Centres Thunder stayed alive with a 2-1 triumph Sunday in Stoney Creek to tie the series. The Halton Hills atom AE Thunder finished off its semifi- nal sweep of Niagara Falls last week and will face the Aurora Tigers for the OMHA Group 2 finals beginning Friday in Au- rora. Game two of the six-point series will be held Sunday at the MMSP's B pad at 5:15 p.m. Rebels rule OFSAA pool again Finishing with more than double the points of the second-place team, the Georgetown Reb- els continued their unquestioned superiority in high school swimming in this province last week at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre in Brantford. The Rebels captured the overall title by placing first in each of the junior girls/boys and senior girls/boys' categories for their sixth straight Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations championship, which included several medal-winning performances. Earning gold medals were the junior girls' freestyle relay team of Arielle Mersiadis-Car- rier, Shannon Kent, Samantha Burwell and Veronica Fong, along with the senior boys' medley relay entry of Daniel Ardron, Nikolay Videnov, Tanner Leckie and Ryan Smith. As well, Samantha Burwell, a junior, won the senior girls' individual 200m freestyle race. The GDHS para team (swimmers with a disability), consisting of Amanda Bruder, Tori Ranson and coach Bronwyn Smith, finished second in their division. Picking up silver medals for Georgetown were: Lauren Brewster - individual senior 200m freestyle; Nikolay Videnov - 100m breaststroke; Jr. Girls Medley Relay - Tori Gibson, Taylor Callaghan, Aurora Zuraw, Sally Ross; Tanner Leckie - 100m IM; Aurora Zuraw - 100m free Bronze: Tanner Leckie - individual 200m freestyle; Junior boys' medley relay - Justin Lo- chert, Mitchell Brewster, Ryan Williams, Nick Gramas; Senior girls' medley relay - Saepom Cho, Taylor Matthews, Lauren Rock, Alyson Kennedy; Aurora Zuraw - 50m butterfly; Ju- nior boys' freestyle relay - Ashton Sicard, Nick Gramas, Ryan Baldwin, Ted Mosoi; Senior girls' freestyle relay - Alyson Kennedy, Kelly Smith, Saepom Cho, Olivia Fong Raiders set to take on Jr. Sabres The inaugural Community Honour Award from the Town of Halton Hills was recently given to Acton resident Lindsay Bouwkamp for her efforts in establishing the Georgetown Ontario Special Olympics swim team for disabled athletes, who had their first practice back in September. Since her daughter Jenna's birth, Bouwkamp has been heavily involved with various non-profit organizations such as the Ontario Prader-Willi Syndrome Association, Special Olympics Ontario, the Oakville Marlins' Special Olympics Swim Club and the Oakville Snow Cats' ski team. Presenting the award were Mayor Rick Bonnette and Councillor Jane Fogal. Also receiving Achievement Awards that evening were wrestler Aidan McVeigh and lacrosse players Samuel Haines, Campbell Parker, Drayden Patey and Bret Allonby-Swan for their performances at the provincial, Eastern Canadian and national championships.
