•The IFP• H alton H ills, Thursd ay, A p ril 10, 2014 31 STONE, John 82 - Sydney / Georgetown, ON It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden peaceful passing of John Daniel Stone at home on Tuesday, April 2, 2014. He was born in Belle Island, Nfld on September 5, 1931, he was the son of the late William and Georgina (Steele) Stone. He is survived by his wife, Martha (McCarthy); two stepdaughters Valerie (Jay) Hollohan; Joanne (Ian) Cann, both of Sydney and three grandchildren Taylor, Stephanie and Ryan. He is also survived by his brothers, Harry (Joyce), Billy (Stella), Angus (Mary), Eric (Betty), Dan (Vivian) all of Ontario; Jim (Helen), Labrador; sisters, Margaret (Ed), Ontario and Theresa (Tom), Nfld. John has many n ieces , nephews, in- laws, grandnieces and grandnephews who will miss him dearly, and he will be missed by all who knew him, especially the staff at Casino Nova Scotia. He was predeceased by a sister Mary in childhood. He lived most of his life in Georgetown, ON, where he retired from Ford Canada and recently settled in Cape Breton. John was a quiet soul; a very easy going man who like simplicity. He was a long standing member of the KOC (Nfld, Ontario, Sydney). John was an avid reader and a stellar crossword person. Visitation for Mr. Stone will be on Sunday, April 6 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 am, Monday in Holy Redeemer Church with Rev. Dad was 92 years young. Michael was a loving and dedicated husband for over 70 years to his wife Virginia. Dad lived his entire life for her; daughter Barbara; son Michael and his wife Ke r r i ; g randdaugh te rs Che l sea and Courtney; h is daughter- in- law Jody. Michael also leaves behind his beloved brother Don. Dad was an amazing person, wonderful husband, father and grandfather who was not only dearly loved by his family but his friends and band members alike. Dad has been a musician for 78 years, playing Alto sax, clarinet and flute. He played actively up to the age of 90. Friends will be received at the J.S.
