Photo by Victoria Thoms Starting Monday, May 5, Halton Region will extend its special bulk brush collection to the rural area. It is also waiving tipping fees for brush at the Halton Waste Manage- ment site from May 31 to June 30. "Halton Region continues to work closely with the local municipalities to implement a coordinated ice storm re- lated bulk brush collection program," said Gary Carr, Regional Chair. "As the extended program will not start until May 5, staff will work with the local municipalities to help with the set-up of temporary transfer sites, if required, within non-serviced areas so that residents and contractors can drop off brush at no charge." Homes in the non-serviced yard waste collection areas of Halton must place oversized brush along the road- side. Residents must ensure that the brush does not block the road and is not placed inside ditches. It must be placed out no later than the first day of the scheduled collection week. Branches are to be no longer than six feet in length and placed in piles no more than 20 feet long and four feet high with branches no thicker than three inches in diameter. The collec- tion schedule in Halton Hills is:  • May 26 to June 6, 2014 - Halton  Hills, Wednesday Area 1 • June 9 to June 13, 2014 - Halton  Hills, Friday Area 2 Residents who have bulk brush ma- terials that are larger than three inches in diameter must make their own ar- rangements to have it collected and taken for disposal.
