Halton Police in Halton Hills and Milton will be participating in the an- nual Canada Road Safety Week May 13- 19 and will be taking a zero-tolerance approach. Canada Safety Council's annual awareness campaign focuses on behav- iours that put drivers, passengers and other road users most at risk. Impaired driving, distracted driving (cell phone use), aggressive driving and seat-belt use will be the focus. "With our accident rate up 35 per cent this year already, it's time we pushed home the message about driv- ing," said Roger Wilkie, the District Op- erations Inspector for Halton Hills and Milton. "We've focused a lot on education; with the media, on Twitter, advertising messages, electronic signs, and have even made a movie with high school kids about paying attention and driving properly. It's now time to step up our enforcement to those drivers that just don't seem to get it. If you're caught breaking the law during this week, you're going to get a ticket." Police remind drivers that it's easy to avoid getting a ticket: Drive at the speed limit, stop at red lights, wear a seat belt, and put the phone down while driving.
