Jaguar Mackenzie Cameron ran to victory in the junior girls' 1,500m and 3,000m events at the regional competi- tion at St. Marcellinus in Mississauga, finishing the latter race almost 30 sec- onds faster than the runner-up in a time of 10 minutes, 52.26 seconds. CtK's Aleks Rapp dominated the re- gional senior boys' discus event, better- ing the second-place finisher's throw by 6.39m. Rapp also took top spot in the se- nior boys' shot put with a toss of 15.84m, 39cm farther than Hamilton Cathedral's Stephan Smith. The top four finishers in each event at the South Regionals qualified for the On- tario Federation of Schools Athletic Asso- ciation championships, which run from Thursday to Saturday at St. Marcellinus in Mississauga. Other local student/athletes who quali- fied include GDHS's Meghan Sippel, run- ner-up in the midget girls' 3,000m after placing fifth in both the 800m and 1,500m races. CtK's Stefanie Parsons is OFSAA- bound following a fourth-place result last week in the junior girls' 3,000m. Acton's Chante Burnett finished third in the junior girls' 100m sprint to qualify and just missed out on making the pro- vincials for the 200m and 400m races, placing fifth in both. Bearcat teammate Skylar Kraus was fractions of a second away from OFSAA berths in each of the 400m and 800m events, having to settle for fifths. Georgetown's Matt Knebel qualified with a third in the senior boys' 800m. SOCCER: Needing a win over the host Bishop Tonnos Titans to advance to the provincial AAAA senior boys' soccer championships, Christ the King's Jaguars were edged 2-1 by the Ancaster school last Thursday to finish their season. Bishop Tonnos grabbed a 2-0 lead, but a physical, emotional match had its in- tensity turned up for the last 10 minutes after Jags' captain Ivan Peric headed in a Nick Moreno corner kick to cut the lead to one, but that's as close as the Halton champions would come. FIELD LACROSSE: CtK's varsity boys edged Whitby's Father Leo Austin 6-5 on Wednesday in the opening game of the OFSAA AAA/AAAA championships in Brampton. Cody Menzies (2), Braidyn Vidler (2), Teagan Gilian and John Vezina scored for the Jaguars. Irene Kiroplis of Christ the King's Jaguars tries to elude a couple of defenders from Peterborough's Holy Cross S.S. during last week's OFSAA girls' field lacrosse champion- ships held at Trafalgar Sports Park. The host Jaguars won their first game over Keswick 13-2, then lost to Whitby's Sinclair 10-1 to close out the preliminary round. CtK lost 12-2 to Holy Cross (pictured above) before being edged out of the consolation round 10-8 by the Orangeville District Bears. The Jags placed eighth out of a dozen teams entered. Whitby's Donald Wilson downed McKinnon Park of Caledonia 15-5 to earn its second consecutive provincial high school title. Photo by Eamonn Maher Bulldogs back to full strength The Halton Hills Bulldogs expect to finally have their full lineup on the floor just in time for a frantic week in the On- tario Jr. B Lacrosse League's schedule. Riding a five-game winning streak, the 8-3 Bulldogs have four games in five days this week, beginning with road games in Mississauga Wednesday against the Tomahawks and a key clash with rival Green Gaels in Bowmanville Thursday night. On the weekend, Halton Hills will host the 4-9 Kahnawake Hunters Sat- urday at 7:30 p.m. and the 11-1 Akwe- sasne Indians Sunday at 2 p.m., both at the Alcott Arena. Sophomore defender Theo Dol and fifth-year forward Mike MacDonald are due back from school commitments in the U.S. while forward Tyler LeBlanc is set to return from injury this week. Second-year forward Adam Chara- lambides broke a franchise record in last Thursday's 16-7 throttling of Mis- sissauga with nine goals and three as- sists. Also scoring for the home side were Kyle Moore (2), Campbell Parker, Jake Perehiniak, Lewis White, Owen White and Cory Highfield, who along with Seth Laidlaw added four assists. Rookie netminder Drayden Patey earned his first win in goal. The Bulldogs are tied with the Oakville Buzz for top spot in the OJBLL's South East Division with 16 points, although Halton Hills holds a game in hand on their south Halton ri- vals.
