C A COMMENT Green development standards are here While building on the Town's award-winning Green Development Evaluation Checklist, in April, Coun- cil approved a new set of Green De- velopment Standards. These stan- dards put in place a practical and highly flexible set of criteria that are anticipated to maximize devel- opment's many positive attributes while minimizing its potentially neg- ative impacts. The standards apply town-wide and took effect on June 2. When appropriately managed, development can result in thriving complete communities and higher quality of life, helping to implement our Community Sus- tainability Strategy. We look forward to seeing the next generation of high-performance devel- opment in Halton Hills that implements our new standards. More infor- mation on the standards is available here at http:// haltonhills.ca/initiatives/ GreenBuildingStudy.php **** Congratulations are in order to Regional Councillor Clark Somerville on his acclamation of Second Vice-President of the Fed- eration of Canadian Municipalities. Last year, Councillor Somerville was elected by mayors and councillors from across Canada to be the Third Vice-President of FCM. He plays an important role in bringing munici- pal issues to the federal level. **** Congratulations are also in order for Ward 3 Councillor, Dave Kent- ner on being inducted to the Halton Hills Sports Hall of Fame. Council- lor Kentner has been involved in hockey in this town for many years. Congratulations also to Kaitlyn An- drews, Brian Hayward, Timothy Murdock and Dan Ralph who are also worthwhile recipients. **** Last month, many residents, councillors and I were pleased to of- ficially open the Regan Ridge Bridge in Hungry Hollow. What a great place for a hike, right in our back- yard. **** The hot weather is now upon us. Make sure to take the little ones to Dominion Gardens and Gellert splash pads in George- town or to the Superior Glove Splash Pad in Ac- ton. **** In a few weeks the students will be out of school. Drivers please be extra diligent and watch out for the little ones. Slow down. I'm still getting complaints about a few drivers not knowing how to navi- gate the roundabout by Gardiner School. **** Congratulations to the following on their recent grand openings: • La Vita Fine Foods on their grand opening in Georgetown • A Second Wind on their grand opening in Georgetown • Country Reflections on their grand reopening in Acton **** Keeping it real.
