Attracting and retaining jobs is a top priority for Halton Region and I am pleased to report that through our work with staff, Regional Council and our local municipalities, we continue to deliver impressive results. This year, the Halton Region Small Business Centre, in partnership with the Province of Ontario, is proud to introduce another new youth entre- preneurship program, Starter Company. The Starter Company pro- gram provides training and business skills de- velopment to help youth between the ages of 18 and 29 develop a busi- ness plan and prepare to run their own business. Where eligible, a micro- grant of up to $5,000 is available to help start a new business, expand an existing business or buy a business. Local business professionals and con- sultaants also offer mentorship and guidance to help youth get their busi- ness up and running. Residents are invited to attend a free general information sessions on the first and third Tuesday of every month between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. at the Small Business Centre. If you would like more information about the program or are interested in reg- istering for a free session, please visit www.halton.ca/startercomany, email smallbusiness@halton.ca or dial 311. Young entrepreneurs play a key role in ensuring Halton's economy remains strong and vibrant. It can be challeng- ing for young business owners to get started, which is why it is crucial that we are able to provide the next genera- tion of entrepreneurs with the proper programs and supports they need to be successful. The funding provided through the Province of Ontario's Youth Jobs Strategy for programs like the Starter Company will support our youth by giving them access to train- ing and business skills that will pre- pare them to run their own business, helping our economy to grow. The Region's strong economy relies on people with the resilient entrepre- neurial spirit and we are committed to developing and supporting our lo- cal small businesses and those who are considering becoming an entrepreneur. The Halton Region Small Business Centre works to empower small and medium-sized enterprises and give them the tools to achieve success. Last year, staff from the Small Busi- ness Centre met with near- ly 1,300 entrepreneurs, helping them start and grow their business here in Halton, through one-on-one consulta- tion, workshops, seminars and a vari- ety of other programs. Businesses of all sizes including en- trepreneurs choose to open in Halton because of our competitive taxes, first class infrastructure and high quality of life.
