The Hillsview Active Living Centre (for- merly Acton Seniors Centre) re-opened on Monday, July 7 following a three-month reno- vation. The renovated centre features: • Fully accessible entrance, including two sliding doors and a vestibule • Expanded kitchen has two new servery windows - one leading into the community hall and one leading into the lounge/reception area • Dedicated lounge and café space • Two motorized partition walls in the community hall to divide the area into smaller program space • Updates to both washrooms Dave Maloney, president of the Hillsview Active Living Centre-Acton, said everyone has looked forward to moving back to the Ac- ton Arena and he credits staff from the Town and Legion for making sure everything ran smoothly and creating a welcoming environ- ment at the Boathouse and Legion locations. "We are happy to be moving back to our newly renovated home in the Arena and we are looking forward to initiating some new fit- ness programs now that we have some more space. The new surroundings will enable us to create more of a lounge and café atmosphere and it is hoped we will have more seniors drop in on a regular basis. We can't wait to get start- ed," he added. A grand opening celebration will take place on Thursday, Sept. 11. Acton's Active Living Centre now back in operation after 3-month reno Tomorrow the lunch is shepherd's pie and dessert and the following week it will be soup and sandwiches. I know everyone missed the soup, even though they enjoyed the salads, so they will be happy to have soup on the menu again. If you are popping in for a visit we have a lovely comfortable area where you can en- joy a cup of coffee, and a muffin. If there is enough interest I am sure the menu will be expanded. Now summer is here some of the programs are taking a break. There is still carpet bowl- ing on Monday afternoons. Wednesday the art group meets in the afternoon, the canasta players play Canasta on Thursday mornings and in the afternoon they play Bid Euchre. After Friday lunch you will be able to play shuffleboard or bingo. The Tuesday movies will still be shown once a month. ALC-Acton still has ongoing summer programs By JULIE CONROY Hillsview Active Living Centre- Acton
