"When Sarah was six, she grew her hair so she could make a wig for some child or lady who needed hair for cancer treatment," said mom Kar- en Gasbarino-Knutt. "Last year, I told her it was time for a haircut, and she informed me, matter of fact, that she's growing it again for (people affected by) cancer." "In order to make her see how powerful cause and effect could be, I told her she should issue a challenge to friends and schoolmates, etc.," Excited by the idea, Sarah came up with Sarah's Wigs for Kids Challenge to be held on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Wicked Hair Salon. All proceeds are going to Young Adult Cancer Canada and all hair will be donated to Wigs for Kids. "Everyone can be an #Everyday- Superhero! I am going to help people who need our help and would love for you to join me or support my team!," said Sarah. "There are so many vul- nerable people in cancer treatment. I am growing my hair for #WigsForKids and my goal is to get 99 others to join me! All you need is 10 inches of hair. Even my mom is doing it! Everyone should have the chance to feel a little better while they are battling illness. If you don't have ten inches of hair, you can sponsor my team or get a Shave for the Brave on September 27 at Wicked Hair Salon!" Sarah has learning dis- abilities that gives her a dif- ferent world view, says her mom, making her a very em- pathetic person who enthu- siastically donates her time and energy to others. "It's such the perfect thing to empower my Sarah. She struggles with her dif- ferences. Now she will be able to harness her compassion and make it grow into something amazing. Her step-dad is even going to shave his head," said Gasbarino-Knutt.
