This area has become an active community hub for residents of all ages and is home to a number of well- used facilities includ- ing a community cen- tre, library, school and several parks. Community Safety Zone signs tell drivers they are within an area where fines have been increased through a special designation under the Highway Traffic Act. Traffic fines are doubled so drivers will slow down, obey the speed limits and be extra cautious for pedestrians and cyclists. Community Safety Zones work in tandem with other traffic safe- ty and police enforcement mea- sures. The new zone is one of three re- gional Community Safety Zones. The other two are at Maple Ave (Reg Rd 11) from Trafalgar to Guelph Street in Halton Hills and Guelph Line (Reg Rd 1) from 122m south of No. 15 Side Road to 385m north of Cameron Drive in Milton. Community safety is a top pri- ority for Halton Region. Our hope is that initiatives such as Community Safety Zones will help drivers take special care to be alert and obey the speed limit to in- crease the safety of all road users, particu- larly children and se- niors. No matter where you are driving, please drive safely: • Watch out for pe- destrians and cyclists; • Remember to sig- nal before changing lanes; • Be courteous and allow people to merge into traffic. Finally, don't get distracted by your mobile phone, and please, stay alert. For more information about Halton Region's commitment to road safety, please visit www.hal- ton.ca/roadsafety or dial 311. We want you to drive safely to protect the youth, families and residents who attend the high schools, use the parks, or visit the community centres, public librar- ies in our communities. Let's work together to keep Halton a safe place to live. As always, if you have any Re- gional concerns or comments you would like to share, please feel free to email me at gary.carr@hal- ton.ca.
