Retiring Halton Hills councillor Joan Rob- son was on the receiving end of much praise, and even some good-natured ribbing from her colleagues around the Council table. At the Sept. 8 Council meeting, Mayor Rick Bonnette-- calling Robson a "solid rep- resentative" of Ward 2 and the community-- thanked her for her 14 years on Council. He said she has "a lot of energy, a lot of humour," and added that there had "been a lot of Joan moments." He thanked her for her support of Town staff, the community and coun- cil members. Robson, who is leaving her coun- cil post at the end of the term, took the opportunity to say something about each of her colleagues. "I'm drawn to remember the pas- sion that each one of you has brought to the table and many members of staff too," said Robson. "Thank you all for 14 wonderful years." Councillor Jon Hurst praised Robson for being "a tireless advocate for her constituents not only in the Glen, but all across her ward." "When I see Joan's hand go up (at Coun- cil meetings), and I catch that little smirk, I always say to myself this is going to be good, and it usually is," said Hurst. "There will be a big hole to fill on Credit Valley Conservation," said Councillor Clark Somerville, stressing Robson had done an "absolutely tremendous" job ensuring the Town and CVC work together. He also praised her for the work she did to push for Meadows in the Glen to be a low impact development. Councillor Moya Johnson pointed out that Robson decided to run for her former hus- band Bill Robson's seat on council after he died. "I don't know anybody who could have done what she did-- stepping in to run for his seat on Town Council, to carry out what he wanted to do, and she did it admira- bly," said Johnson. "You are a lot of fun, but also a great advocate for the Town and you've done a fabulous job in that seat, so congratulations." Councillor Bryan Lewis kidded Robson for being known as "15 Minutes Late Joan," but added, "all of us say a sincere thank you for what you've done, how hard you've worked on our behalf." Councillor Jane Fogal joked that she coveted the councillor's parking spot by the loading dock, wondering how she managed to get it. Robson laughed and said she would pass it on to her. Councillor Bob Inglis called the frank ques- tions Robson's asked around the Council table a strength while Councillor Mike O'Leary called her a "very classy lady".
